We are growing many acres of hazelnuts and with any luck, we will have hazelnuts ready to harvest within the next 3 seasons. The varieties we planted are hybrids of European and American species. European hazels produce large crops of big flavorful nuts, and American hazels are cold-hardy and resistant to disease. This is an experimental crop that has been advanced in our region by devoted plant breeders. There are numerous challenges ahead, but we anticipate enough nuts for seasonal u-pick and perhaps more to follow. Hazelnuts are delicious, especially paired with confections and chocolate. We are especially excited for this one.
